My brand of Satanism is the ultimate conscious alternative to herd mentality and institutionalized thought. It is a studied and contrived set of principles and exercises designed to liberate individuals from a contagion of mindlessness that destroys innovation. I have termed my thought “Satanism” because it is most stimulating under that name. Self-discipline and motivation are effected more easily under stimulating conditions. Satanism means “the opposition” and epitomizes all symbols of nonconformity. Satanism calls forth the strong ability to turn a liability into an advantage, to turn alienation into exclusivity. In other words, the reason it’s called Satanism is because it’s fun, it’s accurate, and it’s productive. — Anton LaVey, from The Devil’s Notebook

The Devil’s Notebook

Anton Szandor LaVey

“The collected wisdom, humor and dark observations” of the bald-headed, bad-boy boss of the Church of Satan. “The High Priest speculates on such topics as nonconformity, occult faddism, erotic politics, the ‘Goodguy badge,’ demoralization and the construction of artificial companions.” Plus “How To Become a Werewolf.” Sing-along bonus: words and music to LaVey’s Satanic church theme song, “Hymm of the Satanic Empire, or, Battle Hymn of the Apocalypse.” Dedicated to the men who invented the Whoopee Cushion, the Joy Buzzer and the Sneeze-O-Bubble. Who says Mr. Devil Worship isn’t a fun-loving guy? GR

Might Is Right

Ragnar Redbeard

A heavy-duty early-20th-century Social Darwinist anti-moralistic rant which, new evidence indicates, may have been penned by Jack London under the pseudonym Ragnar Redbeard. Some passages in The Satanic Bible were admittedly appropriated by Anton LaVey from the impassioned vitriol of Might Is Right: “No hoary falsehood shall be a truth to me—no cult or dogma shall encamp my pen./I break away from all conventions. Alone, untrammeled. I raise up in stern invasion the standard of Strong./I gaze into the glassy eye of your fearsome Jehovah, and pluck him by the beard—I uplift a broad-ax and split open his worm-eaten skull.” This new edition contains an introduction by LaVey and other rare and previously unpublished writings by Ragnar Redbeard. Now it can be told! SS

Satan Takes a Holiday

Anton Szandor LaVey

“Even the devil needs a little revitalizing recreation now and again. LaVey here applies his kaleidoscopic vision to conjure forth occult musical treasures, sending them out into the ethers, to haunt and delight us. With his background in classical, burlesque, circus and roadhouse styles of playing, LaVey uses modern synthesizer technology for illegal purposes—to evoke feelings. Every number LaVey plays—from Sousa march to child’s lullaby—is carefully chosen as a potent brew of major and minor chords, lyricism and prosody, and then supercharged to its most lusty interpretation. All of the instruments on this recording are played by LaVey on his keyboards, performed without benefit of computer sequencing. Satan has little use for digitalized downloading or pixilated processing. The murky, deathless halls of Tartarus resound with songs of suicide, strained gaiety and unreserved romance. Dim the lights, settle back and let His Infernal Majesty take you on a holiday tour of His world…”

The Satanic Bible

Anton Szandor LaVey

“This book was written because, with very few exceptions, every tract and paper, every ‘secret’ grimoire, all the ‘great works’ on the subject of magic are nothing more than sanctimonious fraud—guilt-ridden ramblings and esoteric gibberish by chroniclers of magical lore unable or unwilling to present an objective view of the subject… Far too long has the subject of Satanic magic and philosophy been written down by wild-eyed journalists of the right-hand path… Herein you will find truth—and fantasy. Each is necessary for the other to exist; but each must be recognized for what it is. What you see may not always please you; but you will see! Here is Satanic thought from a truly Satanic point of view.”—Anton Szandor LaVey, 1968

The Satanic Mass

Anton Szandor LaVey

“For the first time in history, here is a recording of an authentic Satanic Mass, recorded live at the Church of Satan… Anton LaVey, along with early members of his diabolical cabal, recorded The Satanic Mass in 1968 (Friday, 13 September, III anno Satanas), when The Satanic Bible had yet to see print.” Long out-of-print and collectible on vinyl, The Satanic Mass includes “The Hymn to Satan,” “The Infernal Names” (calling forth demons and devils by name to do the High Priest’s bidding), “Invocation Applied Toward the Conjuration of Destruction” (“the guttural ululations of the demonic inhabitants of the Infernal Empire can be heard as the High Priest concludes his invocation and summons them up from the Pit to carry out his diabolic command”), “The Seventh Enochian Key,” the “First Satanic Baptism” (of LaVey’s 3-year-old daughter Zeena), and a bonus track not on the original LP “The Hymn of the Satanic Empire.”

The Satanic Rituals

Anton Szandor LaVey

“The essence of Satanic ritual, and Satanism itself, if taken up out of logic rather than desperation, is to objectively enter into a subjective state. It must be realized, however, that human behavior is almost totally motivated by subjective impulse. It is difficult therefore, to try to be objective once the emotions have established their preferences. Since man is the only animal who can lie to himself and believe it, he must consciously strive for some degree of self-awareness. Inasmuch as ritual magic is dependent upon emotional intensity for success, all manner of emotion-producing devices must be employed in its practice… The material contained in this volume represents the type of Satanic rite which has been employed in the past for specialized productive or destructive ends.” Rituals include “Le Messe Noir,” “The Ceremony of the Stifling Air,” “Das Tierdrama,” and more—“REGE SATANAS! AVE, SATANAS! HAIL, SATAN!”

The Satanic Witch

Anton Szandor LaVey

LaVey provides a worldy how-to manual for the swinging ‘70s succubus, based on his Satanic philosophy of “rational self-interest, sensual indulgence and the constructive use of alienation.” The arcane lore of “Bitchcraft,” “ESP: Extra Sensual Projection,” “The Secrets of Indecent Exposure” and more occult ammunition for the battle of the sexes are revealed herein. The Secret Life of a Satanist

Blanche Barton

Fascinating and picaresque biography of the infamous and now-hermetic showman-philosopher Anton Szandor LaVey. Live-in Satanic accomplice Blanche Barton tells the tale of LaVey’s checkered past—as carny, burlesque show organist, hoodlum, Zionist gunrunner, circus lion tamer, ghost hunter and crime-scene photographer for the SFPD—which set the stage for his invocation of the Church of Satan on Walpurgisnacht in 1966 and the publication of The Satanic Bible in 1969. She also relates the Black Pope’s erotic dalliances with screen sex goddesses Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield. At the same time, The Secret Life of a Satanist reveals LaVey’s demonic insight into humanity, film and all things noir, and the true Satanic music, and discusses the nature of the “Second Wave of Satanism,” which LaVey declares to have begun in 1984.
